There is far more to Cuba than just the wide-open beaches and coconut palms often featured in travel agent brochures. In our album, we discover a completely different side to this sultry island

We cross the entire country, from Havana to Santiago de Cuba, avoiding the tourist centres to sleep under the stars on secluded sandy beaches. We witness the effects of the continuing revolution and the twilight of Fidel Castro’s great visions and unfulfilled plans, delighting in the rich colonial architecture and the museum of vintage American cars to be found on the roads. As we travel, we are accompanied by the pulsing rhythm of the salsa, with a glass of rum in one hand and a cigar in the other.
